Castles, walks, golf, fishing, cycling and much more

Carreg cennen castle and more;

The local area is steeped in history with the Gwenlais Valley having the only known Furlough lake in Europe and being an area Special Scientific Interest. The many walks that network to the famous Towy Valley mingle with ancient castles and hill forts and it is a fact that there are more castles here per square mile than anywhere else in Europe.

Other castles include Llandovery, Dryslwyn and Dinefwr Castle once the ancient capital of Wales. The ancient hill fort at Garn Goch, (Red Fort) is said to be soaked in the blood of Roman invaders to this day, and is the biggest Iron age hill fort in Europe, but don’t worry we offer a far warmer welcome these days!

Complimenting these defensive landmarks is The National Trust Dinefwr Park with its ancient white cattle and Newton House a splendid example of Georgian architecture, the mansion is open to the public.

Nearby is Paxton’s Tower, an early 19th-century folly dedicated to Lord Nelson, from which there are fine views of the Towy Valley.

Cycling to the Llanelli Coast;

Trails take keen cyclists through the rural lanes or across to the Llanelli Millennium Coastal park with its Miles of Sandy beaches at Cefn Sidan Sands and Pembrey Country Park with its forest walks, toboggan run and open activity areas.

Llyn Llech Owain Country Park;

Within a 10 minute drive Llyn Llech Owain and its legends have been transformed into a delightful haven for walks and wildlife with boardwalks and catering facilities in season.

Fishing on the River Towy;

The Towy and Cennen rivers are renowned for the Sewin (welsh for sea trout), Rainbow and Brown Trout and Salmon fishing. Local clubs are keen to provide guides with in depth knowledge of the rivers for both fly and game fishing.

The National Botanic Gardens

Gardeners will find within 5 miles both the National Botanic Gardens of Wales and the Garden Lost in Time at Aberglasney.

Dylan Thomas;

Those interested in the famous bard will find themselves in ‘Dylan Thomas Country’ with Swansea and his child hood home of Cwmdonkin Drive a mere 20 miles east and the Boat House in Laugharne only 20 miles west.

Golfing on Jack Nicklaus!

The Jack Nicklaus designed Machynys Golf links course is only 12 miles away and we can arrange transport to and from the course and book tee off times, if you prefer we can book the charming Glynhir Golf Course with its rural setting and panoramic views across the Towy valley or, Garnant Park with its high perch on the Amman Valley home to the soaring Red Kite.

Golf in Style

These stylish golf breaks are a combination of classic courses mixed with the pedigree championship ones, with the food being a balance of in-house fine dining to award winning restaurants.
